| Abdominal mass of unknown origin (Tumors or abscess seen on scans or on physical exam without a clear explanation.) |

Goal is to make a diagnosis of the origin. Laparoscopic exam allows the surgeon to evaluate the abdominal mass (tumor or abscess)more completely. Avoiding the large incision. Once tissue is removed a clear diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment performed. |

Performed as an outpatient in most cases. |

SIDE EFFECTS - unless bowel if removed, usually none COMPLICATIONS - bleeding, or spread of infection if abscess is present. |
