  Inflamatory bowel disease (IBD) of colon (such as Crohn's disease or Chronic Ulcerative Colitis)

Remove diseased section of bowel producting certain complications such as pain, obstruction, bleeding, or etc.

  Treatment
 
Treatment is removal of the diseased area. May require removal only small area or might require removal of the entire bowel thus requiring the intestinal contents to empty into a bag on the side of the abdomen (ileostomy or colostomy).
  Procedure
 

Laparoscopic colon resection (partial or complete) possibly requiring an ileostomy or colostomy.

  Length of hospital stay
 
Average length of stay is 4 - 5 days.
  Potential complications
 
SIDE EFFECTS - Diarrhea if large amount of colon is removed. COMPLICATIONS - Bleeding, leakage at site where the bowel is reconnected, or a stricture at the site of reconnection producing an obstruction.
