  Gastric ulcer, benign (ulcer in stomach which has no cancer. Associated with pain or bleeding)
  Treatment goals
 

Heal ulcer by treating the bacteria frequently associated witht he ulcer forming. If treatment with medicines fail, surgical intervention is required.

  Treatment
 
Remove a portion of stomach around the ulcer to be removed or removal of 1/2 to 2/3rds of the stomach with reconnection to the small intestine.
  Procedure
 

Laparoscopic partial gastrectomy or laparoscopic hemi-gastrectomy or subtotal gastrectomy (removal of 1/2 or 2/3rds of stomach) with gastro-jejunostomy (connecting remaining stomach to intestines).

  Potential complications
 
SIDE EFFECTS- reduction in volume of food that can be consumed. Weight loss expected. COMPLICATIONS - leakage of the connection between stomach and intestine. Obstruction of the connection preventing food from leaving the stomach.
