Reduce source of infection, bleeding, or obstruction that can manifest with diverticular disease of the colon.

Treatment is to remove the diseased section of colon.

Laparoscopic colon resection (possibly with colostomy)

Average length of stay is 4.5 days.

SIDE EFFECTS- loose stools if a large amount of colon is removed. COMPLICATIONS - leakage at the site where the colon is reconnected. Also, strictures of connection can occur.
