| Hereditary Spherocytosis (genetic disease that affects wall of red blood cell causing the red cell to be removed by the spleen producing an anemia) |

SIDE EFFECTS - Patients with spleen out become vulnerable to certain types of pneumonia. One can be vaccinated for this prior to spleen removal. COMPLICATIONS - Bleeding or injury to other organs nearby. |
