Remove cancer and lymph glands nearby which drain the cancer.

Treatment is to remove the tumor and appropriate amount of colon and/or rectum on either side of the tumor.

Laparoscopic colon resection or laparoscopic proctectomy.

Average length of stay is 4.5 days.

SIDE EFFECTS - Loose stools if a large amount of colon is removed. COMPLICATIONS - Leakage at site reconnection. Stricture at the connection.
