| Colonic bleeding (major) (bleeding from either diverticulum on the colon, from abnormal blood vessels inside the interior called angiodsplasias. This kind of bleeding associated with large volume of blood loss) |

Once the actual site of bleeding is determined, removal of that section is required. Often times, the exact location of bleeding can not be determined (as with wide spread diverticular disease)thereby requiring that a large portion of colon be removed. |

SIDE EFFECTS - Diarrhea if more than 70% of colon is removed. COMPLICATIONS - Leakage at site of reconnection. |
